Safety testers meet code
Published:  05 March, 2009

Advanced portable appliance testers in the Seaward PrimeTest range are equipped with a special RCD test capability in line with the requirements of the IEE Code of Practice for PAT testing.

The IEE Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment provides a guide for those with a responsibility for electrical safety under the Electricity At Work Regulations 1989.

Among the changes introduced in the 3rd Edition of the code is the requirement to test the operation of RCDs fitted to extension leads or multiway adaptors. The code recommends that RCD trip time is measured using an RCD test instrument to determine whether the trip time is within specified limits.

To  avoid the time consuming practice of using separate RCD testers alongside  a PAT  tester,  handheld testers in the Seaward PrimeTest 350, PrimeTest  300  and PrimeTest 200 series are now equipped with an integral RCD test capability.

This enables RCD tests to be carried out automatically alongside all other essential electrical appliance safety, basic electrical circuit and IEC mains leads tests.
