Energy Benchmarks from CIBSE
Published:  29 January, 2009

A new publication offering a comprehensive outline of building energy benchmarks is now available from The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).

With building management becoming more important and more demanding, there is growing pressure on the engineers responsible for the operational management of buildings to provide not only high quality engineering services but to run and manage them as economically and efficiently as possible.

With Display Energy Certificates (DECs) - based on metered energy consumption data - showing how well buildings are being run, performance management will only improve through tracking performance and identifying opportunities for progression. This relates not only to past performance but also how current performance compares with other buildings of a similar type.

TM46: Energy Benchmarks offers a comprehensive outline of building energy benchmarks; what they are, how they were developed and how to use them. As well as the benchmarks themselves, it provides details of separable energy uses and includes weather and occupancy adjustments. If you want to understand the DEC process better and see how ratings compare with energy benchmarks, this publication is for you.

It is part of a number of new CIBSE titles which aid compliance with Part L of Building Regulations and Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).
