Wieland gets ATEX approval
Published:  07 January, 2009

Wieland Electric Ltd's gesis IP+ pluggable electrical installation has been certified in compliance with ATEX standard 94/9 EG, meaning the product can be permitted for use in zone II hazardous areas.

As part of the ATEX approval, the gesis IP+ connectors are classified in ATEX device group II, category 3G or 3D and they can be used in an ambient temperature range between -20C and +40C.  The standard states the connectors used in hazardous areas must not be disconnected under load which is clearly marked on the products.  Any disconnected connectors must be closed by means of an end cap which is also included in the range and may be attached to the connector to prevent loss.

Designed for the fast and economical installation of lighting and other building services components, the gesis IP+ system is ideal for use where a high degree of protection is required.  Offering maximum safety for the user, the system is manufactured to BS61535 and offers ingress protection ratings of IP65 (protection from jet spray water), IP66 (powerful jets of water), IP67 (temporary submersion) and IP68 (continuous submersion for two hours at depths up to three metres).
