Top team for Natural History Museum
Published:  19 September, 2007

Hurleypalmerflatt has been appointed as the lead consultant and mechanical and electrical (M&E) engineer on the £1 million improvements to the Earth Gallery offices at the Natural History Museum.

The refurbishment works, which are now underway, include the installation of a new lighting scheme, a new fire detection and emergency lighting system and the rewiring of all electrical distribution across eight floors. A metering project to determine energy usage is also being undertaken.

The refurbishment works are being undertaken while in occupation and services will remain live throughout the project. To ensure this, the work is being done floor by floor with the 6th floor being used as the temporary floor for staff whose office space is being upgraded.

Hurleypalmerflatt has proved, based on current value calculations, that the new, energy saving lighting scheme will pay for itself over the long-term. The project is expected to be completed by February 2008. The professional team includes RWCA (Architects), Walfords (QS) and Mansell (Main contractors).
