CIBSE and ASHRAE strengthen links
Published:  19 July, 2007

The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) have signed a new membership agreement, strengthening links between the societies and broadening the exchange of knowledge and ideas between engineers.

The agreement makes it easier than ever for members of one body to join the other. CIBSE members are welcomed by ASHRAE without undergoing the usual admissions and advancement review. In return, ASHRAE members can use their professional engineering qualifications to join CIBSE’s growing membership.

Welcoming the agreement, CIBSE President John Armstrong said: “This is another step in strengthening links between our two societies and an opportunity for our respective members to access a wider range of knowledge, information and guidance, which is essential if we are to design, construct and operate more sustainable buildings in the future.”

Terry Townsend, ASHRAE President, agreed that it was important to encourage members to link up and exchange ideas. “When our members join other groups, particularly outside North America, they are exposed to new technologies since HVAC&R technology differs due to geographic, environmental, cultural and economic requirements. This exposure makes for more well-rounded engineers and more well-rounded engineering organisations.”
