Lighting the 6 continents
Published:  23 February, 2007

Side Lighting has recently installed Olodum Cool buried uplights to illuminate the ‘statues des 6 continents’ at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. The purpose of the lighting project was to highlight the impressive 19th century statues representing Asia, Europe, Oceania, South America, North America and Africa outside this national museum dedicated to the artistic creation of the western world from 1848 to 1914.

Each statue is lit from the stone pavement with specified adjustable Olodum 70w metal halide G12 3000°k. The individual colour temperature has been chosen to contrast with rather yellowish ambient hues produced by the urban Paris city light.

Olodum Cool is manufactured from die-cast aluminum with anti-slip clear glass. This cool lighting solution is supplied complete with adjustable reflector and integral control gear and recessing kit. Designed to withstand a dead load of 2000 kg and a drive over speed of 25 km/h Olodum Cool is suitable for installing in both pedestrian and vehicular thoroughfares.

The project has been hailed a great success, contributing to the rebirth of the six continents which were originally commissioned for the 1878 third Paris World's Fair, celebrating the recovery of France after its crushing defeat in the 1870 Franco-Prussian War.
