AMEC is top for sustainability
Published:  26 October, 2006

AMEC plc, the international project management and services company, has topped the 2006 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) in the World and European sustainability indices for the support services sector.

This is the third year in succession that AMEC has been named as a sector leader in this prestigious index, which annually surveys the world’s 2500 largest companies, with the top 10% best performing, based on their social, environmental and economic performance, being listed. Of the 65 global support service companies, only 11 made it into the DJSI World Index.

Sir Peter Mason, Chief Executive of AMEC plc, said: “It's abundantly clear to us that companies that work in a clean, safe and responsible way will do better than those that don't. It’s not always apparent in the short term, where profitability is the more obvious measure, but over the long term, a thoughtful approach to your people, the community and the environment, will win you respect, and respect will win you work. The Dow Jones index does a vital job in drawing attention to that fact, and we're pleased to be recognised within it."
