Former Carillion boss to head BRE Trust
Published:  22 February, 2006

Sir Neville Simms FREng, until recently the chairman of Carillion plc, has been appointed by the Council of the BRE Trust as its new chairman. He takes up this position from Hugh Try CBE, who has held the post since 1999.

The BRE Trust works to ensure that the earnings from the companies it owns – which include BRE – deliver against its mission to champion excellence and innovation in the built environment for the benefit of all.

Sir Neville is also the chairman of International Power plc and heads the Government’s Sustainable Procurement Task Force. On taking up this new appointment he said: “I am pleased to be invited to lead the Trust at a time when achieving a built environment that is well designed, efficient and sustainable is so high on everyone’s agenda. Yet there are many challenges that still have to be met if the construction programmes underway in the UK, and those planned, can meet these ideals.

“The BRE Trust, through its education and research programmes and as the owner of BRE, will continue to use its resources to generate and apply knowledge that will help all stakeholders to achieve these goals.”
