Carrier has announced the availability of a groundbreaking option for its latest new chiller, the award-winning Aquasnap Puron – the first medium-sized chiller to use R410A.These chillers, which cover the cooling range from 190-760 kW, are now available in the UK with an integrated direct expansion free cooling system as a factory-installed option on models up to 500kW.
Existing free cooling systems associated with packaged air
cooled chillers all use an auxiliary glycol/air heat exchanger
mounted on the outside of the refrigerant condenser coil. This
arrangement has numerous disadvantages. It is inconvenient to top
up the waterside with glycol to avoid freezing. Power consumption
is higher, chiller efficiency is compromised, and the chiller size and weight increases.
The new Carrier system carries none of the penalties of the old
way of doing things. It uses a completely new patented system
based on the well-established thermosyphon principle. No glycol is
needed, only water. The chiller incorporates a refrigerant pump and
uses the natural tendency of a refrigerant to migrate towards an
area of low temperature.
