York wins climate protection award
Published:  02 July, 2005

York International is the only HVACR company to have been honoured with a 2005 Climate Protection Award from the US Environmental Protection Agency(EPA).York was recognised for its pioneering work and ongoing development of energy saving technologies applied to chillers, specifically with regard to electronic variable speed drives with their dramatic energy saving potential.

York was the first manufacturer to introduce and actively promote the application of environmentally beneficial variable speed drives(VSD) to centrifugal chillers, demonstrating that they are robust and reliable.Based on York’s efforts,VSD technology has evolved from large, expensive floor mounted drives to today’s compact, unit mounted and factory installed drives.Current products are more economical than early generations, offering chiller purchasers attractive returns on investment and creating increasing demand for these energy efficient devices.

It is widely recognised that the indirect effect of electricity consumption is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. The application of VSDs will typically reduce annual energy consumption of a centrifugal chiller by 15 – 25 percent, which means a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.

Andrew Layland,Director of Field Sales,UK and Ireland, said:“We are proud to receive this recognition by the US EPA.

With the ongoing development of existing and new technologies,York will further contribute to the protection of the environment.”
