Air solution for airport
Published:  02 July, 2005

Fläkt Woods is providing a new ventilation solution for the extension to Düsseldorf Airport, supplying JM Aerofoil car park fans. In total nearly 50 of the company’s renowned JM car park jet fans are being supplied for the main supply and extract of the car parking area. This is a new concept for Fläkt Woods in Germany, and the JM car park jet fan system was demonstrated to offer a saving of around 50 percent over a traditional ducted system,as well as being simpler to install.

Computational Fluid Dynamic(CFD)analysis has been used in the design to optimise the installation, providing better smoke extraction in a fire situation.

The contract is part of the second phase costing €38million for the expansion and improvement of concourse C together with the construction of an underground garage with 800 parking spaces,an access road and the completion of a people-mover system from the train station to the central terminal.

Following a fire which severely damaged Germany’s third biggest airport in 1996,a new terminal building was constructed, and work on the second phase will be completed by late 2005.
