Double savings from Adaptaflex
Published:  02 June, 2005

Use of highly sensitive microwave sensor time switches from Adaptaflex can save on components and installation times as well as unnecessary energy usage.

Offering detection over greater distances than conventional Passive Infra-Red timers (PIRs) the units can cover large areas such as offices, factories, corridors, dining halls, sports halls, warehouses etc. They typically sense over a distance of approximately 30 metres, which would require numerous ceiling mounted PIR units to cover a similar area.

The microwave unit fits in a standard 25mm deep, single gang box, requires a neutral connection and because there are no external switches or lenses, is vandal resistant. In operation, the unit emits a low power microwave signal and the reflection is measured. At distances greater than 50mm the power density of the signal is less than six percent of the ANSI IEEE C95.1.1991 recommended power density. When movement disturbs the signal the lighting is switched on. The unit switches off the lighting when no movement is detected after the elapsed set time.
