The first major design change for smaller plate heat exchangers has been introduced by Alfa Laval.
The new M3 compact frame simplifies exchanger design by replacing the conventional, bolted, plate and frame assembly with a wrap-around shell into which the plate pack is assembled without the need for bolts. As a result, the M3 compact frame uses only 12 components compared to 40 in a conventional Plate Heat Exchanger.More importantly, perhaps,it also reduces the overall weight by 50 percent.Since the M3 Compact Frame is intended for applications in HVAC,oil cooling and steam heating where space and weight can make such an impact on overall cost, these are very significant benefits. The unit offers frame, cell connections and plates in stainless steel as standard and can also be supplied in more exotic materials such as titanium. It is designed to accommodate between 15 and 70 plates, providing a maximum possible heat transfer surface of 2.2m2 and enabling the exchanger to be tailored precisely to individual duties.
