Hills electrify architectural icon
Published:  07 February, 2005

Hills Electrical & Mechanical plc has secured the contract to install essential Mechanical and Electrical services in the next phase of the fit-out of landmark 180-metre building in the City of London.

The iconic glass and steel building, 30 St Mary Axe, was designed by architects Foster and Partners and is the second tallest building in the City. Completed earlier this year, it has forever changed the capital’s skyline with its spectacular design and unique contours.

The building’s offices are serviced via a raceway running around the perimeter of the central core and Hills is installing lighting, four-pipe fan coil air conditioning units, small power and fire alarms. The building provides a total of 46,500 sq m of floor space, with the floor plates ranging from 615 sq m to 1,878 sq m.

David Hill, CEO of Hills Electrical & Mechanical Plc comments: “30 St Mary Axe is one of the most innovative buildings seen in the last 30 years and needed a forward thinking M&E contractor to carry out this work. It fits perfectly with Hills as a business as we both stand out from the crowd and do things in a way that can change the way people look at our respective areas.”
