The twenty-first century technology of the Kingspan Koolduct System has been used in the expansion of the University of Southampton's Hartley Library.
The installation forms part of an £8m expansion of the University's reference library, which houses fascinating archives and collections of papers written by great figures, such as the Duke of Wellington and Lord Palmerston.
Ducting specialists,Greenhall Insulation Contracts, installed a total of 700m2 of the KoolDuct System, externally on the roof of the new build section and internally for the riser ducts. The external section of the system was installed with metal cladding to protect it from both the elements and pollution.
M&E Environmental Consultants,Atelier 10,who specified the Kingspan KoolDuct System, said: “We considered that the overall performance and ease of installation made it the most suitable system for this project.”
By providing 4,000m2 of new accommodation and refurbishing a further 4,000m2, the Hartley Library will be able to acquire special collections of archives for the next twenty years.
