Spirax Sarco pilot-operated, pressure-reducing valves have been
upgraded with the introduction of a hi-tech, variable rate, pressure
control spring, which simplifies ordering and cuts spares
stockholding costs.
Just one version of the DP17 valve covers downstream operating
pressures from 0.2 to 17 bar , rather than the three variants
previously required. Fewer options make ordering easier and
eliminate the risk of the wrong valve being specified. In addition, a
valve can now be changed to an application with a different
pressure requirement, without changing the control spring.
Suitable for use with steam, compressed air or other industrial
gases, the DP17 has a maximum operating temperature of 232°C
and is available in sizes from DN15 to DN50. Typical applications
include lowering the pressure of steam from a high-pressure
distribution line to the point of use, or as an automatic temperature
control for applications such
as autoclaves, retorts, and
corrugators.
The new variable rate
pressure control spring is
conical, using a progressively
smaller coil diameter. As it
compresses, the spring
provides an increasing
resistance as stiffer coils take
up the load. This variable rate
of resistance is the key to
providing the valve’s highly
accurate performance over
such a large pressure range.
