REHAU has introduced new Desktop Columns to add to its popular Bench Trunking range. The new columns were originally developed as a bespoke solution for one customer but the level of interest has been so high that REHAU has taken the decision to add them to its standard range.
Tom Hunter, the development engineer responsible for the new columns, says that they provide a simple yet versatile solution for situations where a high outlet density is required.
He says: “We developed the columns in response to a specific request from a customer in a large open plan office with a number of desks sited away from perimeter walls. Four-way extension leads were in widespread use and staff had got into the habit of plugging additional extension leads into these when further sockets were required.
“This was causing a potential hazard, as well as creating the kind of unsightly ‘cable spaghetti’ which constitutes a trip risk.
“Our asymmetric Bench Trunking provided the ideal solution to create stable four sided columns which could be mounted on the desks to tidy up the spaghetti and create a neat, safe single feeding point.
“The columns have solved the problem for one customer and we are confident that they will prove useful for other applications in open plan working environments.”
The new columns are currently available free standing with the option of up to 12 terminal outlets or if structurally supported up to 24 terminal outlets.
They satisfy the requirements of BS 7671 and BSEN 50175-2-1 and can be supplied complete with contrasting coloured lids or socket collars to meet the visibility requirements of Part M of the Building Regulations.
Tom Hunter adds: “REHAU frequently works with customers to develop bespoke solutions to comply with specific safety or technical requirements, but this is the first time that we have translated that into a standard, off the shelf product.”
