Building Information Modelling (BIM) is set to revolutionise the way in which buildings are designed, constructed and maintained. Kingspan Insulation is leading the revolution from a manufacturer’s perspective by being the first to launch specific products on the National BIM Library, in conjunction with the NBS (part of RIBA Enterprises Ltd).

With a long history of working together, Kingspan Insulation appointed NBS to author their product ranges as BIM objects and host them on the National BIM Library.  To date only generic objects have been available on the National BIM Library. Having manufacturers’ objects allows not only more accurate specification, costings and quantities, but also better facilities management information.

The objects are being made available in the four main BIM software formats (ArchiCAD, Revit, Vectorworks and Bentley), and also in the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) format, which helps to solve the problem of interoperability. Five key insulation product objects are being launched initially, with the rest of the product range following over the coming months.

The National BIM Library is free to use, and will allow users to download the Kingspan Insulation objects ready to insert them directly into a model.
