Hoare Lea has been appointed by Birmingham Development Company (BDC) to act as mechanical and electrical consulting engineers for The Cube. Hoare Lea will also provide advice on acoustics, BREEAM, lift engineering, specialist lighting and sustainability.

Designed by MAKE architects and forming the final phase of The Mailbox mixed-use development The Cube has a value of over £100 million. Its distinctive cubic form will be instantly recognisable on the Birmingham skyline. Glass, steel and an exterior clad in shimmering metallic fretwork will echo Birmingham’s manufacturing and jewellery heritage. Inside, a stunning open atrium which twists as it climbs the 17 storey height of the 450,000 sq ft building will be lined with coloured glass.

The building will include Birmingham’s first rooftop restaurant with panoramic views, a boutique hotel and residential apartments offering internal views over the twisting atrium. Further down, high specification Grade A office space is planned with more exclusive retail and waterside restaurants at the base.

The building will be located between The Mailbox café bars and restaurants, Washington Wharf apartments, Commercial Street and the Birmingham Worcester canal.
