Building services firm, Kimpton, has won the M&E design and installation contract for the new 141-bedroom Travelodge hotel on Liverpool’s waterfront.
Located on The Strand, adjacent to Liverpool One, the city’s thriving retail destination, the new Travelodge is being constructed on the site of a derelict former car park and is expected to boost the Liverpool economy by around £1.5 million a year. Kimpton’s installation of the M&E services for the ten storey building is due to start on site in March and the company will have to overcome the accessibility challenges of the development, which is being constructed on a very tight site, in a built-up area that sits on one of Liverpool’s main through-routes.
The design and installation project will include heating to all bedrooms, air conditioning and ventilation in the public areas, including the hotel’s reception and café/bar areas, plus all the development’s domestic water and drainage services. Kimpton has also designed the ventilation provision for the kitchen and bedrooms which comprises a natural air intake and mechanical extraction system. The company will also design and install all the electrical services for the building, including the fire alarm system, the disabled refuge system, lightning protection and the UPS system for the lifts.
The scheme has been designed by Manchester-based architects Leach Rhodes Walker.
