Electrak has helped blend the latest technology with Bristol’s traditional waterside heritage at the city’s prestigious Temple Back development.
Designed by architects, ERP, the speculative development is predominately commercial space, with an additional 14 residential units. The design has retained the southern elevation of the existing building to provide the façade of the new building.
Electrical consultant, Hoare Lee, brought Electrak on board during the design stages and the company has worked closely with electrical contractor, Lorne Stewart, to deliver a fully addressable lighting control system which can be tailored to the needs of individual occupiers.
The installation has involved 1,700mm of Electrak’s Buscom integrated power and communications busbar along with the company’s Lightrak KNX lighting control system.  Timed event controllers will ensure that lights are automatically switched on at the start of business each day and switched off again each evening, with individual occupiers able to programme the system to meet their own requirements.  In addition, daylight sensors ensure that lights are switched on automatically if the natural light fades and off in areas close to windows on brighter days.  All office areas have also been fitted with presence detectors to ensure that lights come on automatically should the building be occupied out of hours.
“The plug and play nature of the Electrak system has enabled us to complete the installation at Temple Back in just ten months,” commented John Prewitt from Lorne Stewart.  “As this is a spec build, different tenants will have differing requirements, but the Electrak system is so flexible that they will be able to programme the controls to meet their needs.  What’s more, because it’s a KNX-approved system, they will be able to choose from a wide range of additional lighting control and building control accessories if they wish, and these can be integrated simply by plugging in a laptop anywhere on the system.”
