TERN
Tern Alpha, a fixed, manned drilling and production rig for the Tern field, in the East Shetland Basin of the northern North Sea, is using Durapipe HTA plastic pipework to distribute domestic water services.
The oil platform serves as a production facility for the Hudson and Kestrel fields and is owned and operated by TAQA Bratani Ltd. The facilities cater for up to 175 personnel.
The project on levels three and four has just been completed and further work to levels one and two is planned for later this year.
As part of the project, accommodation refurbishment contractor North Offshore Ltd, was tasked with replacing the existing copper, hot and cold potable water pipework system, within the four level accommodation module of the platform.
They chose Durapipe HTA, a C-PVC based system in sizes up to 90mm, to transport water from the main plant room and distribute throughout all levels of the platform, to supply the accommodation services.
Ric Trayner, Offshore Contracts Manager at North Offshore, said: “We chose to install Durapipe HTA because it was suitable for both the hot and cold water systems and is easy to install. Maintaining water services at all times, with minimum disruption, was paramount onboard such a busy platform.”
