CP Electronics has supplied lighting controls for use throughout the new state-of-the-art Wood View Learning Community, which includes the Whitleigh Community Primary School in Plymouth, Devon.

The new campus has recently joined forces with two local schools Woodlands Special School and Sir John Hunt Community Sports College to provide a new complex, which will eventually be home to 1,500 children from infants to 16 year olds. The complex is built around a courtyard called The Forum and the three wings surrounding this area contain two floors of classrooms.  The buildings have been designed to combine light and airy learning with communal spaces which contain the latest intelligent building technology. This includes underfloor heating which responds to the movement of people around the building, along with CP’s lighting control systems that also contain lighting presence detection.

CP Electronics has supplied its Vitesse Plus LCM (Lighting Control Modules) with marshalling boxes for the offices, toilets and classrooms within the complex, with the latter also utilising Vitesse microwave detection.  The Vitesse Plus LCM has the facility for connection to external devices such as light switches (ELV), presence detectors, and micro wave sensors. CP worked closely with Interserve Engineering Services in Plymouth who installed the lighting control system along with HLM architects.

The microwave detector unit is self-contained and requires no separate control or power supply boxes, which makes installation simple. Its detection range of up to 30 metres makes it ideal for use over large areas. The Vitesse Plus System installed in the classrooms is programmed for absence detection, whilst providing daylight linking on the seats closest to windows so that illumination can be dimmed in those areas when sufficient natural daylight is available.

Andy Keith of Interserve Building Services commented: “When we first received the specification for this project we were confident that CP’s products would be ideal for the installation.  Energy efficiency was paramount for a project of this type and CP’s absence detection products certainly fitted the bill”.
