The Isle of Wight’s Newport County Hall has been remodelled with data and electrical services to answer current and future demand thanks to the installation of Cablofil cable management from Legrand.
The new electrical installation has been carried out to enable centralisation of services for the Isle of Wight’s 39 electoral wards, 25 parish councils and eight town councils at Newport County Hall. The remodelling project has opened up the building to allow resident access to council services via self-service terminals in the new public reception area and has increased staffing capacity from around 300 to more than 700.
The project follows the installation of a state of the art ‘Server Farm’ in 2010 to provide secure data and IT services to secondary equipment rooms on each floor. Electrical contractor Paktron used Legrand’s Cablofil steel wire tray system for the cable management infrastructure for the server farm scheme and opted for Cablofil again for the refurbishment of the main building.
Matt Lane from Paktron explains: “We had used Cablofil steel wire tray cable management throughout the Server Farm project as its open structure provides ample ventilation for data cables while the system has a unique safety edge that prevents cables from snagging. The cable management specification for the office refurbishment needed to answer the demands of quality, longevity, cost and reduced installation times and, once again, Legrand’s Cablofil system ticked all of these criteria.”
Paktron Installed Cablofil steel wire tray in sizes ranging from 50mm to 600mm, largely in the ceiling voids, with separate runs of basket for power, lighting and data. The main arterial cables were installed in vertical risers connecting with the ceiling void installation on each floor.
Matt adds: “The ceiling voids were quite tight but Cablofil steel wire tray is so lightweight and flexible that creating bends on site to fit the available space was relatively straightforward.”
