The introduction of Class C and D ductwork air leakage limits into the SBEM algorithm, which now allows this level of air leakage to be taken into account at design stage, gives specifiers an edge as they look to make the target 25% carbon saving over 2006 standards. Kingspan Insulation has developed a CPD exploring the issues.

Kingspan Insulation has developed a new CPD presentation which examines the different HVAC ductwork issues that face specifiers, designers, fabricators, installers, building owners and occupants in today’s challenging environment, with a particular focus on the recent changes to Approved Document L2A and L2B.

These changes take into account the impact of ductwork air leakage on carbon emissions in a much more meaningful way than previously. The introduction of Class C and D ductwork air leakage limits into the SBEM algorithm, which now allows this level of air leakage to be taken into account at design stage, gives specifiers an edge as they look to make the target 25% carbon saving over 2006 standards.

Aimed at a wide audience, from architects to contractors, the CPD explores the many benefits offered by pre-insulated ductwork systems fabricated with premium performance rigid modified resin insulation panels. Apart from providing high levels of air tightness they also have excellent thermal performance overall, low embodied environmental impact, speed and ease of installation, together with lightweight and space saving properties.

The CPD covers a range of research that supports the extent of the key benefits, and highlights a live case study that clearly demonstrates the enormous difference in air leakage between a pre-insulated ductwork system and a traditional fibre lagged sheet metal one.

Pre-insulated ductwork manufactured from the Kingspan KoolDuct System can achieve extremely high levels of air-tightness, making it more than able to meet Class C and D ductwork air leakage limits that can now be taken into account in the latest version of SBEM.
