The eagerly awaited Energy and carbon emissions regulation: a guide to implementation (EPBR) has been published by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).

This valuable publication is a key source of information on the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations. It serves as a comprehensive companion guide to the various regulations and covers Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), Display Energy Certificates (DECs), inspection of boilers and inspection of air conditioning systems.

In the foreword, Nick Cullen, Principal Author of the publication, explains: “The growing awareness that mankind has changed the earth’s climate has given rise to a profound change in the way we view the buildings that we live and work within.

“Buildings account for 40% of the global energy use and in the UK are responsible either directly or indirectly for approximately 50% of national carbon emissions. Government has introduced a variety of measures over the last decade to decrease the carbon footprint of the built environment. This document describes those measures most closely related to design, construction and operation of buildings.”

It is part of a number of new CIBSE titles which aid compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations and Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).
