Fire and smoke dampers from ActionairMarket leading damper manufacturer Actionair has seen a surge in demand for its SmokeShield PTC range following the introduction of mandatory CE marking in the UK.

CE marking is now mandatory on a wide range of building services equipment putting dampers and all vital life safety products under particular scrutiny. All Actionair products had been subjected to rigorous testing and third party verification in preparation for this major change, which was designed to impose stringent quality standards across Europe.

In the event of a building fire, the SmokeShield PTC damper range of CE marked ‘ES’ rated dampers will prevent the spread of fire and smoke to maintain compartmentation; so enabling the evacuation of occupants and minimising damage to the building fabric.

Actionair, which is part of Ruskin Air Management and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2014, also updated all of its technical guidance to support the correct installation and commissioning of fire and smoke dampers.

‘Actionair has been at the forefront of innovation, design and manufacture of life safety dampers and associated controls for more than four decades so we take our wider responsibility to the market very seriously,’ said marketing manager Charles Shillitoe.

The company’s updated guidance references the industry’s approved Guide to Good Practice: Installation of Fire and Smoke Dampers (DW/145) produced by the Building & Engineering Services Association (B&ES). This stresses the need for a co-ordinated approach to damper installation supported by clients, designers, specifiers and installers.

It also looks at how all team members can meet their responsibilities by making sure they understand all aspects of the process from design to handover and that they do not solely concentrate on their own area of expertise.
