Fläkt Woods has been awarded a contract to supply new energy efficient fans, which are replacing Fläkt Woods Varofoil fans that have been used to circulate the air at the historic Cathays Park Building in Cardiff since 1980.
Cathays Park is the head office complex for the Welsh Assembly Government and former home of the Welsh Office. The building has until now been ventilated by Fläkt Woods’ Varofoil fans which have been running continuously for 27 years.

However, the age of the fans and a desire to be more energy efficient, prompted the Welsh Assembly Government to consider an upgrade. The contractor on the project contacted Fläkt Wood’s distributor in Wales, Alan Williams of Cardiff Road in Barry, with a view to upgrading the system to modern energy standards.

Design engineers were quickly able to find a solution, recommending Fläkt Woods JM axial flow fans, fitted with invertors. Fläkt Woods axial fans have been developed over the last 50 years to ensure the most reliable and efficient fan possible for a wide range of applications.

A total of 25 large axial fans have now successfully been installed, ranging in diameter from 1 metre through to 1.25 metres.
